My brother showed me this shit the other day. It's an application for the iPhone called Shazam. How it works is you play some music from an external source (computer, radio) and you hold your phone's mic up to the source while Shazam captures a sample of the music. It then matches the sample with one of 4 million songs in the Shazam database and boom - positively IDs your song along with the album, art, record label, and links to download on iTunes or check out a video on YouTube. And its free for iPhone. Fuckin rad.



I guess Shazam is also a service that works on all phones via text messaging, however it costs you per ID. And I heard there are similar applications where you can do as little as hum the tune of a song and it will ID it for you!
